**Sneak Peek:**
Want a taste of where it all begins? Here's the beginning of the opening chapter:
Austin, Texas. Five years ago.
What’s the statute of limitations for receiving a response before you know for sure you’re officially ghosted? A week or a month? Does it matter if you’re sure he’s your soulmate?
A year ago, Amelia Preston believed she was on the right track when she accepted a summer internship with Gateway2Green in the mapping department.
After graduation, she’d left Florida to take the job. It was the perfect stepping stone into a geology career. Her new boyfriend, Jonathan, was her second-biggest supporter. Only her mom, Rachel, was more excited.
A long-distance relationship was tough, but they were going to make it work.
AMELIA: They assigned me a mentor, and I like her. Feels like I’m drinking from a firehose, but I’m learning so much.
JONATHAN: You’re a rock star. You’ve got this! Being apart is rough, but I’m proud of you. Will call u tonight.
For her birthday he’d sent a beautiful bouquet of lilies, and they’d made plans for their next monthly visit.
Then, a week before their first-date anniversary, his last message to her had arrived.
JONATHAN: I’m sorry, but I can’t come to Austin next month.
AMELIA: I can fly to Florida to see you for a long weekend. I’ll spend some time with my mom, too. I haven’t seen her in months. She’ll be thrilled.
JONATHAN: No, I won’t be available for a while. I’m sorry. It’s complicated.
AMELIA: What? Why?
A brief metaphorical middle-finger text. The cold dismissal made her wonder if she’d imagined their entire relationship.
Then came the radio silence. Who does that? Their relationship had evaporated. A real breakup would have been easier to accept, or at least easier to understand. Her stomach sank deeper every time she thought about his vanishing act.
After a month with no response, sleep vanished. Food tasted like cardboard. She checked her phone compulsively, a hollow ache spreading through her core with each empty notification screen.
She’d hoped it was temporary, so she waited. And waited some more before she tried calling and texting a few last times. But her resolve ran dry, and the hurt seeped in as weeks passed.
He wasn’t going to respond. Not now, not ever ...

I can't wait for you to meet Amelia and Jonathan. This story is about second chances, workplace tension, and whether love can survive being ghosted.
Happy reading! 💕
